I had the chance to try this little cutie without having to pay for the regular price. All I can say is, Im glad I didn’t have to pay that much for it. Why? Well, simply because I’m quite disappointed.. I was so excited to get this because of all the hype. I mean $20 for a sponge?!! Well if the claims are true, why not? If it could cut my makeup application time and would make me look flawless and airbrushed then I would gladly shell out money for that. But then, to my disappointment, it did not. I tried a lot of ways to use this (like wet and dry) but the result is always the same. I tried using this in applying cream, and liquid foundations. Both produced average results. True that using this will leave no streaks and blending is quite easy but I find that it applies the foundation so sheer and it eats so much of my foundation (liquid) I had to use like 2 or 3 pumps for my whole face to give me enough coverage. But what Im most disappointed about is that my 35 pesos sponge works and applies wayyy better.. no Im not exaggerating, it’s just the way it is. I look more airbrushed and my application is more even when I use my cheap sponge. I know I should be happy because I wont need to buy this again but looking at how cute it is, makes me want to buy it still :p

The only time I use this is when I'm applying my concealer (I use the narrow-end tip). It does a great job in that department. I think I'm keeping this for that sole purpose only. I also tried applying my MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural using my BB and it works just fine.I really want to like this, coz it's so cute! But I guess what may work wonders for others may not work that way for me. It didnt come with a cleanser, so I just washed it with a regular soap (hehe, I know it can harm the sponge) but I have no choice, I had to clean it up using good old safeguard :D

May I add that this is a favorite of Rihanna and Taylor Swift.. I wonder if they do their own makeup? Oh well, I guess my search goes on for the perfect applicator. I would love to try the famous MAC 187 but Im not ready yet to splurge that much for a brush :p

I love lining my waterline with white eyeliner, it just makes me look awake and makes my whole look bright. I already have the MAC eyeliner in Fascinating and I love how pigmented and long lasting that one is. You only need a quick swipe and the color stays there the whole day.

So when I saw MAC's Chromographic pencil, I just thought that it would look subtle and pretty on the waterline. The first time I saw chromagraphic pencils was I think last year, it came out with Pret-a-papier collection, I was very much intigued because it is multipurpose, meaning you can use this as an eyeliner (this instead of a white/black liner on waterline) and as a concealer. I tried using it both ways. First as an eyeliner, it gives me a well-rested look and it is so natural, it doesn't give me that weird look that sometimes white eyeliner gives me :p.This glides smoothly and easily on my waterline. The other way I use this is as a concealer which Im not really happy, why, you ask? Well, this can cover spots just fine (coz this had that flesh-toned color just like normal concealers), but the staying power is what I am disappointed about. This just doesnt last on me, so if you are oily just like me and you are planning to get this for concealing purposes alone, I suggest getting a regular concealer like those in pots. I heard Laura Mercier carries the best concealers (as raved by a Chanel SA :D) I just havent tried them yet, so maybe you could check out LM counters and test their concealers.

Overall, Im not too satisfied with this. The only reason Im keeping this is because I love the effect it gives on my waterline. But cheaper eye pencils can give that too, so I wont be repurchasing. Sorry MAC :P

If only the oil that's springing from my sebaceous glands are as precious as that of a gasoline, I would be a multi-billionaire by now :D Yes ladies, that's how oily I am.. and to add more insult to the injury- I am living in a tropical country and most days are hot and humid, most foundations would fade by midday on my uber oily face. The only foundation that keep my face oil-free for an hour or two is Dior Extreme Fit, but Im not gonna talk about Dior yet. This review is for MAC's famous blotting powder, I have it in Medium Dark. After using it for a few days, I still cant tell if I really like this well. First, because it's not SUPERB in oil control, this is just AVERAGE-well for the price I expected a lot more :p. Read on for more of my thoughts regarding this powder :)

Price- this costs P1,200 for 12 g / 0.42 US oz in local MAC stores. It sells for $23 in MAC website.

Packaging- I love that this is a pressed one that I can bring anywhere, it is very travel-friendly.

Shade- I have this in Medium Dark and the shade is just right for my NC20-25 skin tone. The MA in the MAC counter told me that this is translucent, I believe so but this is not totally translucent, it still has faint pigments and can therefore change the color of your foundation(especially upon application), but not too much like the regular pressed powder.

Application- the application is a breeze, I actually like the puff it came with :) One thing though, make sure that you blot first before applying this, to prevent your makeup from caking up.

Finish- Im not really a fan of the finish. This can make you look powdery, flat and unnatural. There are shades available so make sure that you get the shade that will fit your skintone. Medium dark is still quite light, dont be decieved by the word dark in there. Those with dry skin, make sure to moisturize!! This accentuates flakes and dry areas on face.

*sorry* for the poor swatch.. but you can see here how powdery it looks and how it accentuates dry areas on my finger :p

Coverage- I find that this has very little to no coverage at all, well you can wear it alone if you're gifted with blemish-free skin, but for those needing more coverage you'll rather get disappointed with this. MAC blot I think is made for touch-ups alone.

Wear- Im gonna be judging the wear of this powder depending on how long it keeps my face matte. From a scale of 1-5 with 5 being Fantabulous, I guess this is a 3 for me :P. Not so much oil control there but I dont know, maybe that's just me since my face is an oil factory :p. It does keep my face matte for a couple of hours though like 3-4, after that I would already see traces of oil.

Be wary though for I know some girls breakout from this.

Overall, Im just OK with this, I can't see myself repurchasing again since Im quite disappointed with the oil-control. I love that I can bring this when I travel and not worry about spills and messy touch-ups. Kryolan Anti-Shine powder is more superior in oil-control than this but Id rather tote this than Kryolan so I guess Im still keeping this.

Graftobian HD Glamour creme in Vixen

This is my new HG foundation, I always make sure to set this well with a powder for this to last all day on me. I love the finish, it's definitely flawless and covers my acne spots so well! Ive been using this ever since I got this, Ill be posting an update once I get to use this for a couple of weeks more. I havent had any breakouts so far (crossed fingers*), and I hope it stays that way :) I bring this with me just in case I need to redo my makeup.

The packaging these powders came with are not so travel-friendly so I had them transferred to a smaller container with sifters so I would get to carry them around with me for retouch. I use NARS loose powder when I feel like my foundation is coming off, it has a decent coverage for a loose powder and can cover some minor scars/discolorations (I still use my MAC concealer though before applying this) NARS doesnt have much oil-control that's why I carry a separate powder. Kryolan Anti-shine powder works better in controlling my oilies. This gives no coverage since it only comes in one shade which is translucent. I would love this more if it comes in pressed form. I'll be doing swatches and separate review for this :)

I use this for retouch. It's not really that great and I can't compare it with other high-end brushes since I dont own any yet, but this does a good job of distributing powder on my face. The hairs are fine, they're not scratchy but not too soft either. I haven't experienced any major shedding with this since I use this, so for the price I think it's a good deal. I don't use any sponges/puffs for powder retouch because they tend to apply more product to my face thus making my makeup look caked :p.
I don't bring my other blushes with me as they are very pigmented. Public comfort rooms have different lightings so I oftentimes overblush myself {teehee, is there such a word?} NARS Sex Appeal is so subtle you can never overdo it. I sometimes dont need to face a mirror to apply this, because I know that in 2 or 3 swipes it would still be looking perfect and natural :)

One of my favorite highlighters. I usually tote this one instead of my NARS copacabana (I want to save every bit of it since Im already running out :()Among my powder highlighters, this is the easiest to apply, Albatross is very easy to overdo while my NARS Nico is very subtle. So this make it easier for touch-ups. It gives a beautiful, believable sheen. It has very tiny glitters but nothing over-the-top. I dont know if you can use this all over the face as I haven't tried that yet, I haven't use this as a blush either, I only use this as a highlighter which I think works great. This is limited edition though, so for those who are interested maybe you can check out ebay or other sites that may still carry this.

I love this brush! It's so soft and the size is just right for distributing blush on my cheeks! I think this one is made of synthetic hair, it is quite dense and it picks up just the right amount of product and applies it evenly on the cheeks. I would buy this over and over again. A bonus is that it is so inexpensive, about less than 4 dollars. It killed my lemmings for high-end brushes like MAC. Though I would like to try a MAC brush too, maybe someday :D. I love a product that is affordable and yet delivers well. I dont know if they sell this in other countries like the US, I have seen a Marionnaud store in HK but Im not sure if they carry these brushes.
This is the Guerlain Meteorites Illuminating pressed powder in Beige Lumineux :D. I was so lucky to score a refill of this since the one that is available in Guerlain counters is so expensive! I cant find a more decent case to put this, so I guess this vintage-y cardboard would do fine :) I dont mind not having the luxurious packaging, because the product is so excellent! This is my most favorite pressed powder :) I love using this for touch-ups. Below is a photo of what the actual product looks like~
I dont wear lipsticks, I actually dont own one :P I cant stand the ickyness of the lipstick on my lips (maybe I should opt for a matte formula noh?) I also think that lipsticks make my lips more noticeable which I don't like since I already got thick lips and I dont want to emphasize them anymore :( This here, gives the perfect got-bitten-lips. Perfect for touch-ups since it comes with a doe-foot wand, it spreads and stains my lips so easily you only need a few swipes and you're good to go. This is not very lasting though, Im still on the hunt for the perfect lipstain, so goodluck to me :P
Aveeno essential Moisture Lip balm & the oh so cutesy & yummy Gelato Chocolate lipbalm :)

Im not really a fan of lip products as I have said in my previous posts, but whenever I experience chapped, dry, cracked lips (which I often do) this is my go-to products. I like Aveeno coz it moisturizes my lips so well without being overly greasy. It also has a bonus SPF 15 too! I love my Gelato lipbalm just the same, it's not really that great in moisturizing my lips but it smells like chocolates! I love using it just for that reason alone :p and the packaging it came with is so cute! looks just like a pint of ice cream :)
How was your New Year celebration? Mine was simple, me and my family got together for a late dinner and then we all waited for the year to end. As I was pondering everything that happened to me this past year I couldn't help myself thinking that even though 2010 was a pretty much difficult year for me I am still lucky to have made it alive this year. I got sick last year that I was admitted to the hospital for almost a week, it was a bad case of cough and colds that turned into Pneumonia. I was on anitbiotics for 2 weeks and I was so depressed that time I wanted to die. Luckily I have my boyfriend with me. He called me numerous times a day just to check if Im ok (he's overseas by the way), he also made sure that I get to eat right and my needs are all met. He gave me reasons to fight and still believe. He gave me everything I could ever hope for.

Read on for the preview ;)

The shade I got is Vixen, I am a little in between NC20-25 in MAC and I think the shade match is pretty much spot on! Ive been collecting makeup for more than 2 years now and Ive tried lots of products, sadly most of them didnt work for me. I am always on the lookout for a new beauty product as I am always hoping that I would find my HG. For over 2 years of searching, I can now say that I found my HGs (for now) not all of them are perfect but I can say that all of them address my needs and they perform quite well according to my expectations.

I would start with my base:

My HG moisturizer would be Cetaphil Lotion

I only use this during the cold, dry months. I have very oily skin so I only use this whenever I get dry patches on my jaw line and on the skin around my mouth which happens a lot when I am under hydroquinone. It moisturizes my skin the whole day without adding oil to my already oily face. It is very light on the face too! I love this :)

~♥~~♥~~♥~

For sunblock, I love my Neutrogena SPF 50

Way back, 2 years ago I never cared about sunblocks. Baaaadd.. I know TT_TT, I should've cared more. It is now one of the most important part of my skin care, I never go out without it ;) Since Im also using hydroquinone for my acne, sunblock is really a must for me. I love this particular sunblock because I love how light it is on the face, the high spf (SPF 50), very easy to find since this is available locally, and no white cast in pictures! can you just say LOVE?

~♥~~♥~~♥~

For Primer, YSL Matt Touch TOPS my list!!

I can't find anything bad to say about this primer really! I never looked for another primer since I get to try this!! I actually got this during a bazaar and I got 2 of this for very low prices, I think 600 pesos apiece(US$13-14).This is heaven sent for me! I love its texture, my face feels so matte & silky whenever I apply this. It makes my face a perfect canvass for foundation. Whatever foundation I wear with this goes on smoothly and blends easily with my skin. It prolongs the wear of my foundation and helps making it look fresh even after a few hours. I find that it works extremely well with my Dior Extreme Foundie (which is my HG as well). My makeup last the whole day despite the humid weather, I only need to blot for a few times but that's just my skin's fault since Im uber oily! It looks fresh again after blotting (no kidding!). It has a bonus SPF 12 too! What more can I ask for? I feel so lucky to have found this :)I have two colors, yellow and pale blue. I honestly don't find any difference between them. It says in the packaging that pale blue would give brightness to your face while the yellow one would even out your skin tone.

(im sorry I didnt do a swatch, Im saving every bit of this as Im afraid I would run out :()

~♥~~♥~~♥~

For Concealer, it's MAC Studio Finish

I have several concealers in my stash(Oleary Covermark, Cinema Secrets, Artdeco, James Cooper). This is my favorite among them because it's very pigmented, you only need a little tiny bit and it will cover/erase your spots like magic! I only need to set it with powder and it will last the whole day :)There's just one thing I kinda hate about this- it's VERY yellow!! The shade I got is NW25,the SA told me that since Im warm/yellow toned I should get the NW since it will counteract the redness of my pimple scars. My fault also since I swatched this myself in the counter,I should've go out under natural light to see if the shade really match me :( But I still love this since this is the most lasting among my concealers and despite the wrong shade, I still find this very good in concealing. The consistency is quite hard and not so creamy which I like since it tends to stick more to my face. I dont use this on my undereye area since my Dior extreme Fit does the job of covering my dark circles very well. I only use this to cover my acne scars.

~♥~~♥~~♥~

For foundation, it's definitely Dior Forever Extreme Fit

I am a foundation junkie, I love to try different kinds of foundations may it be low-end or high-end. My favorite/go-to foundation as of the moment is Dior Forever Extreme Fit. I just love how it feels on my skin, it provides great coverage without the feeling of being heavy at all! What I really love about this is that it doesnt transfer! dont you just hate it when you blot and some of your foundation just transfer to the tissue? Dior Forever wont do that :) It has pretty good oil-control, & last the whole day on my very oily face, EXTREME WEAR indeed!! It is a good setting powder, it sets my foundation quite perfectly. I googled reviews before I bought this and most of them said that it will give you that "soft-focus" effect. Well, I have not seen much of that raved effect but I do love how it settles on my face. It's quite powdery upon application but after a while it does sets beautifully. Nars Sex Appeal is L-O-V-E!! It gives me "the glow", brightens up my face, and it makes my skin look flawless (haha, I know Im a bit overreacting coz my skin is far from being flawless) even Robbie (one of my favorite NARS SA) said so. I think this is the perfect blush for me because the color is so subtle you can never overdo it!! It's a light peach blush with a hint of pink in it. You have to swipe this blush for like 3-5 times on your cheeks to get some color (thats how subtle this blush is). It's quite unusual for NARS since most of their blushes are uber pigmented, you just need one swirl of your brush and your good to go. I had a hard time swatching this, I swatched this heavily for about 5 times on my arm to make the color appear. Here are samples of the swatches:

It appears baby pink here, but on my cheeks, it's a beautiful pale peach!

Here's a swatch of Sex Appeal side by side with Nars DT,
I sometimes wear it over Nars DT :)

I think this would look good on ladies NC30 and below, I am NC20-25 in MAC and it looks just like a natural flush! That's the reason why I always look for products that will give me that kind of effect. I am used to wearing liquid foundations and I always set them with powder either pressed or loose, and I sometimes get that very matte/powdery/dull look that I hate. It looks very unnatural, like Im wearing too much powder (eek!). This started my love for highlighters/luminizers. I just couldnt live without them, I especially love my Nars Copacabana, as it gives me the most natural sheen.

I came across Nars Nico while I was checking out some Nars blushes.. I was a little confused coz it looks just like a pressed powder and yet it is placed among other Nars blushes. I tried googling for reviews and found out that many women actually use this as their setting powder. Some even said that it gives the same effect as the Guerlain Meteorites Balls, so with that I was sold!! :P After debating (still) with myself, if I still need this (I already have Guerlain Meteorites in Mythic). I decided to just let the boyfie do the decision making for me :D I was hoping (I think, LOL) that he will kill my lemming for this, but since the boyfie spoils me so much, he just gave me the "go" signal :) (Im spoiled rotten like that, I know :()

So without further ado, here's some swatches and my INITIAL thoughts on Nars Nico~

It wasnt Love at first swatched I tell you, I find Nico a bit powdery like a regular pressed powder, and it's not finely milled either. You have to blend it well to get that sheen. It is much more subtle as a highlighter than Nars Albatross, I find Albatross very shimmery and can look fake if not blended well. I tried dusting this on my whole face and I can say that it does give a certain appeal/dimension to your complexion, but nothing that would amaze me :( Guerlain wins in this category and I guess it would forever hold that spot for me :)

I think this is very good for touch-ups, since I really dont like the idea of toting my Guerlain balls with me everytime I go out. This would also look great as a setting powder for concealer on the undereye area :) All in all, I like this but wouldnt recommend this to everyone. This is just my initial review as I only used it once, I used a cheap, local brush to apply this.. maybe it's in the brush noh?

the good:

nice subtle sheen

can be a dupe for Guerlain meteorites for that ethereal glow

compact

multi-purpose!

-finishing/setting powder for that lovely glow

-eyeshadow base

-setting powder for concealer {instantly brightens up the undereye area, bye bye dark circles!!)

-subtle/very natural highlight for browbones cheekbones, nosebridge, cupid's bow

-you can also use this for blending/taming pigmented blush

the bad:

it hurts in the pocket

a little powdery/not finely milled

you can use it as a setting powder BUT dont expect oil-control coz there is NONE!

the classic black rubber case attracts powder & dust

Will I repurchase?

Maybe, if I ran out and if I have some extra moolah :) I think this is a good purchase since you can use it several ways :)

Peace & Love♥♥iheartvintage8http://www.blogger.com/profile/16996452801676251420noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9165013564961548492.post-5972107758879537532010-12-02T18:27:00.000+08:002010-12-24T20:42:24.441+08:00just for fun~Nail Arts♥

too cute for words no?

iheartvintage8http://www.blogger.com/profile/16996452801676251420noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9165013564961548492.post-52657820592467715802010-11-30T23:38:00.000+08:002010-12-01T17:17:52.709+08:00First post!! I'll dedicate this to my fave brand, Guerlain :DI cant believe Im writing this!! Im so excited!!.. My first ever post to my first ever blog!! :P

Okay, so I decided to make a review for my first post and here it goes:

Guerlain Les Voilettes Mineral Loose Powder

Such a luxurious packaging!! I actually wanted this for that reason alone LOL!! I know it sounds pathetic but it's so pretty that I just wanted to have it. The shade I got is 03 Beige Naturel. The MA at the counter tried the 02 and 03 on both sides of my face, both have good coverage and it was hard to tell which one is the closest to my skin color. We then decided with the help of my younger sister to choose 03 instead of 02, (I am btw NC20-25 shade in MAC). I was a bit hesitant at first because my first Guerlain foundation (Parure Extreme, 02 Beige Clair) which I believe is the lightest shade, oxidized on me. I ask her then if their Loose Powder will do the same thing and she said no. I believed her and proceeded with my purchase. To my dismay, after my first application, I realized that I got the wrong shade, it is a tad darker than my color :(. The lighting in the departmnet store fooled me. I looked a bit tan with this, but luckily it didnt oxidize on me :)

So, my advice to all the ladies out there, make sure you try it first at the counter and make sure you see it under natural light because there's really a BIG difference. Im still happy though because I really love the texture of this, no more powdery look for me (yes NARS im looking at you) and it really blends with the skin. It's the finest Loose Powder I have! I love it! Scroll down for swatches :)

Blended.
